What it is

The Macau Grand Prix is the city's biggest weekend of the year and one of motorsport's strangest spectacles: a full international race meeting run on ordinary streets. The Guia Circuit threads 6.1 km through the city, past the reservoir, around the Lisboa Bend, along the waterfront, lined with barriers and grandstands for four days, then handed back to traffic on Monday morning.

The 2026 edition is the third run under Formula Regional regulations. The headline single-seater field races identical Tatuus T-326 cars to the new-for-2026 Formula Regional Gen2 ruleset, and the weekend doubles as the FIA FR World Cup. It's the race young drivers treat as an audition for the road to Formula 1.

The seven races

Seven categories share the circuit across the weekend:

  • Macau Grand Prix – FIA FR World Cup. The headline: the world's best junior single-seater drivers on the most demanding street circuit in the category.
  • Macau GT Cup – FIA GT World Cup. Factory GT3 machinery from Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche, with a new Silver Cup for emerging drivers in 2026.
  • Macau Guia Race – Kumho FIA TCR World Tour. The touring-car world tour's season finale, two races on the tightest track it visits.
  • Macau Formula 4 Race – FIA F4 World Cup. The second F4 World Cup, with an expanded grid run by leading national F4 teams.
  • Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix. Road-racing bikes on a street circuit: the bravest race of the weekend, and the one the purists come for.
  • Greater Bay Area GT Cup (GT4) and the Macau Roadsport Challenge for local machinery.

The rhythm is traditional: Thursday and Friday are practice and qualifying; Saturday and Sunday bring the qualification races and the finals. The detailed 2026 session timetable had not been published as of September 2026.

Tickets: what we know

Ticket sales open at 12:00 PM on Friday 9 October 2026 through the official Macau Ticketing network (macauticket.com) and authorised outlets including Ctrip, Damai and EGL Tours. Thursday and Friday seats are MOP 100 across the grandstands; for the weekend it's MOP 750 at the Grand Stand, MOP 1,200 at the Lisboa Bend, MOP 400 at the Reservoir, and MOP 150 concessionary. Buy only through the official Grand Prix site (macau.grandprix.gov.mo), the Macau Ticketing network or authorised agents. Never buy from unofficial resellers: counterfeit and invalid tickets surface every year. See our ticket sale guide for the full price list.

Grandstand seating is assigned by section around the circuit, and the popular sections sell out. If Lisboa is your pick, don't wait.

Where to watch from

The signature corner is the Lisboa Bend: a tight right-hander at the end of the circuit's fastest straight, where the braking zone produces most of the weekend's overtaking and most of its crashes. Grandstands near Lisboa are the classic first-timer pick.

Elsewhere: the Reservoir section rewards patience (a fast, flowing sequence), and the start/finish straight on Avenida da Amizade gives you the pits, the starts and the podiums. There is no bad grandstand at Macau: the circuit is so narrow that every section puts you close to the cars.

Race-weekend logistics

  • Roads close. Expect closures and diversions around the Guia Circuit on all four race days. If your hotel sits inside the circuit area, check access arrangements before you arrive.
  • Book hotels early. Race weekend is Macau's priciest weekend of the year and rooms sell out. See our Grand Prix hotels guide, and which hotels actually overlook the track.
  • It's loud. Bring ear protection, especially for children. Trackside noise at a street circuit is relentless.
  • Walk the track. Outside race hours the circuit is public road. Walking the route on a quiet morning (Lisboa, the Reservoir, the Melco hairpin) is free and genuinely worth doing.
