Fine dining
The Michelin-starred rooms
Three stars: Robuchon au Dôme at the Grand Lisboa: French haute cuisine under the dome, with panoramic city views. Jade Dragon at City of Dreams: serious Cantonese cooking in a grand room. Both retained their three stars in the 2026 Michelin Guide Hong Kong & Macau.
Two stars: Alain Ducasse at Morpheus, Wing Lei, The Eight, The Huaiyang Garden, Feng Wei Ju and Chef Tam's Seasons.
One star: the 2026 list runs to thirteen, including Don Alfonso 1890 at Grand Lisboa Palace and Palace Garden (both newly promoted in 2026), plus Lai Heen at the Ritz-Carlton, Aji and Five Foot Road at MGM Cotai, Pearl Dragon at Studio City, Ying at Altira, and 8½ Otto e Mezzo-Bombana.
How to choose. Pick Robuchon au Dôme when the occasion calls for the full ceremony: French haute cuisine under the Grand Lisboa dome. Pick Jade Dragon when Cantonese is the craving, served at the level only a three-star room delivers. The two-star rooms are where serious Cantonese cooking lives without the three-star formality: Wing Lei, The Eight and Chef Tam's Seasons for Cantonese, Alain Ducasse at Morpheus when the evening should be French. The newly starred Don Alfonso 1890 and Palace Garden, both at Grand Lisboa Palace, are the new names on the 2026 list.
Yí by Jereme Leung is recommended in the 2026 guide but does not hold a star. Book the starred rooms well ahead. Weekends and holidays fill up fast.
Local classics
Portuguese, Macanese and the egg tart
Fernando's in Coloane is the classic Portuguese meal in Macau: traditional dishes in a relaxed village setting, and a genuine institution. Lord Stow's Bakery, also in Coloane, is home of the legendary Portuguese egg tart. Margaret's Café e Nata is the other name locals mention when custard tarts come up.
Taipa Village is where to graze: the food streets around Rua do Cunha pack Macanese, Portuguese and Cantonese into a few walkable blocks. For a longer trip, see our day-trips guide for Coloane and Taipa Village.
Eat at Fernando's when you want the classic Portuguese meal in a village setting, and make it a Coloane afternoon with Lord Stow's egg tarts after. Graze Taipa Village when you'd rather wander between Macanese, Portuguese and Cantonese than commit to one long lunch. End the night at MO Bar at MGM Cotai when the evening calls for a proper cocktail room.
For drinks, MO Bar at MGM Cotai is the standout cocktail room. And the annual Macao Food Festival, usually held in November, is the city's big showcase of its food culture. The 26th edition runs 20 November to 6 December 2026: see our food festival guide for this year's details.
