What it is
The Bocuse d'Or is the biennial world championship for chefs, founded in 1987 and routinely called the Olympics of gastronomy. Countries and regions qualify through continental selections, and the winners meet at the Grand Final. The Asia-Pacific selection returns as a live competition for the first time since 2018, and Macao is hosting it for the first time. Eight teams will cook across two days on 1 and 2 November, with places at the Grand Final at Sirha Lyon in January 2027 on the line.
The event is coordinated by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), which announced it jointly with the Bocuse d'Or organising committee on 25 September. It lands nine years after Macao's designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy in 2017, and the competition's president, Jérôme Bocuse, welcomed its return to the region.
What we don't know yet
Two things, and they are the two things most readers will ask about. The venue has not been announced. Neither has public access: as of 5 October 2026 there is no official ticketing, no published spectator arrangement, and no confirmed way for the public to watch the competition. We will update this page the moment either is confirmed. Until then, treat any third-party site selling "Bocuse d'Or Macau tickets" as unverified: there is nothing official to buy.
Why it matters for Macau
For the city, this is a statement booking. The Bocuse d'Or organisation chose Macao as the stage for the Asia-Pacific selection's return, which is international recognition for the city's meetings and catering industry as much as its restaurants. Expect the first weekend of November to bring a concentration of the world's top chefs and culinary media to town, and expect the city's fine-dining rooms to be busier than usual.
If you're in Macau that weekend
Book restaurants early: the competition brings chefs, judges, sponsors and media, and the top tables fill fast. The weekend sits between the late-October events and the Grand Prix fortnight, so hotels are calmer than they will be two weeks later, but the dining scene will be anything but. Our Macau dining guide covers where to eat. Note this is a separate event from the Macau Food Festival, which runs 20 November to 6 December.
