The fireworks sign off

The 34th Macao International Fireworks Display Contest wraps up with its finale on 4 October. Two teams fire each night, at 9:00pm and 9:40pm, over the sea in front of Macau Tower. This year's edition is the first with large-scale drone shows, so expect more than pyrotechnics in the sky. It's free from the waterfront. NBA China Games: 9 & 11 October

The Dallas Mavericks vs Houston Rockets play two preseason games at the Venetian Arena. It's the NBA's return to Macau, now a recurring fixture on the calendar. Bad news first: game tickets sold out across all authorized channels as of 23 September 2026. Between the games, the arena hosts NBA Fan Day on Saturday 10 October at 3:30pm, a separate ticketed event with on-court entertainment. Sara Landry: 4 October

Hard techno headliner Sara Landry plays the Londoner Arena on 4 October. It's 18+, doors at 11pm. A late one, and a loud one. If you're coming in for it, the Cotai resorts put you within walking distance of the venue and the rest of the night.

Studio Creepy 3: weekends from 9 October

Studio City's Halloween horror run is back for its third year. Think immersive cinematic escape: special-effects makeup, mechanical installations, interactive gameplay. It runs every Friday to Sunday from 9 October to 22 November, and standard tickets are MOP 144. Macau doesn't do a citywide Halloween the way some places do, so this is the one to book if spooky season is your thing.

Lusofonia Festival: late October, dates TBC

Two weekends of Portuguese-speaking-world food, music and community pavilions at the Taipa Houses. It's Macau's Lusophone heritage on show, and one of the nicer low-key festivals of the year. The exact 2026 dates hadn't been announced as of 30 September. We update the events calendar as soon as they land.

Oktoberfest at MGM: 28 October to 8 November

Macau's big Bavarian fortnight returns for its 16th edition. The giant beer tent goes up on the MGM Cotai roof terrace, with German bands, traditional costumes and Bavarian food, 6:00pm to midnight daily. Party sets by Cantomania on 30 and 31 October. It straddles the month, so it works as either a Halloween-week plan or an early-November one.

Also on in October

The Macao International Music Festival runs 2 October to 29 November: two months of classical and traditional music, 10 programmes plus citywide activities. Concert-wise, ENHYPEN play the Galaxy Arena 16 to 18 October and Ian Chan is at the Londoner Arena on 24 October. Golf fans get the SJM Macao Open at the Macau Golf & Country Club, 15 to 18 October. And 18 October is a public holiday for the Chung Yeung Festival, so expect local crowds on the hills that weekend.

Planning notes

Early October is one of Macau's busiest stretches. 1 October is a public holiday and mainland China's Golden Week break sends a wave of visitors across the border, on top of the fireworks and the NBA. Hotels sell out and ferry queues get long. Book both early. Where to stay in Macau.
