After dark

Macau after dark, beyond the casino floor.

Most visitors assume Macau at night means the casino floor or nothing. The city has more than that: a blues bar with a live band six nights a week, a Taipa tavern that runs to 2am, a rooftop bar on the peninsula, a weekend night market, and a run of free shows on Cotai that cost nothing to watch. This is the practical map, with hours checked against live sources on 19 October 2026.

Live music

The Roadhouse: Macau's live band bar

If you only pick one nightlife stop, make it The Roadhouse Macau on Broadway Food Street at Broadway Macau, across the road from Galaxy Macau. Galaxy's own listing calls it the city's most popular bar for blues, booze and rock, and the format backs that up: a live band on stage Tuesday to Sunday, 9pm to 2am, sports on the screens, and a room full of music memorabilia.

The bar opens at 5pm every day, closing at 2am Monday to Thursday and 3am Friday to Sunday, with a happy hour from 5pm to 8pm. It works as an early evening drink that turns into a late one, which is more than most Cotai venues offer. Broadway Food Street outside has food stalls for dinner before the band starts.

Bars

A rooftop on the peninsula, a tavern in Taipa

SKY 21 sits on the 21st floor of the AIA Tower on Avenida Comercial de Macau, a bar and restaurant spread over the top floors with harbour views. It is the peninsula's late rooftop option: open Monday to Saturday from 11:45am to 3am, and Sundays from 2:30pm to 2:30am. Go at sunset for the view, stay for the terrace.

Old Taipa Tavern, known to everyone as OTT, is the expat local in Taipa Village: open Monday to Friday 4pm to 2am and from midday at weekends, also to 2am. Craft beers, pub food, big screens for sport, and a happy hour dice game where a lucky roll makes your drink free. It is a short walk from the Cotai resorts and a different world from them. We covered OTT in our local spots guide if you want the full picture.

Night market and late food

Eating after dark

The Hong Kung Night Market sets up beside Hong Kung Temple on Rua de Cinco de Outubro, in the Inner Harbour area of the peninsula, on Saturday and Sunday evenings from 6pm to 10pm. It is a street food and stalls market: come for dinner and a wander, not for a midnight session, because it packs up at ten.

For a later dinner, Taipa Village is the practical answer. 3 Sardines, the Portuguese tavern in the St. Lazarus Quarter on the peninsula, serves to 11pm, and Taipa's food streets around Rua do Cunha run into the evening with bakeries, noodle shops and dessert places. Our dining guide covers both areas. On Cotai, Broadway Food Street beside The Roadhouse covers the pre-band dinner slot.

Free after dark

The free shows run late too

Cotai's free spectacles are an evening plan on their own, and we verified the schedules for our free things guide. The Wynn Palace Performance Lake fountain shows run from noon to midnight, every 30 minutes until 6pm and every 20 minutes after, and the SkyCab cable cars over the lake are free to ride. The Parisian's Eiffel Tower illumination runs every 15 minutes from 6:15pm to midnight, free from the ground. Inside Galaxy Macau, the Diamond Lobby and Crystal Lobby shows run every half hour into the evening, until midnight on Fridays, weekends and public holidays.

None of these need a booking, a ticket or a hotel key card. They are in public lobbies, atriums and outdoor areas, open to everyone.

The paid night out

One big show, then a drink

The classic Macau night is a show first, drinks after. House of Dancing Water at City of Dreams plays evening performances, and the late show finishes in good time for The Roadhouse or a Cotai hotel bar afterwards. Our sister site macaudeals.com has just published a show tickets guide covering where to buy verified tickets and what each seat band costs, and our own experiences worth paying for guide ranks the paid nights out.

Getting home is rarely a problem: taxi ranks sit outside every big resort, and the resorts run shuttle buses into the late evening. Check the last shuttle time at your hotel desk before you go out, because the last departure is the one detail that changes by property.
