What it is

The Macau Food Festival is the city's big annual open-air eat-out, organised by the United Association of Food and Beverage Merchants of Macau, now in its 26th year. Sai Van Lake Square becomes a sprawling night market of stalls from local restaurants and specialist vendors, spanning Macanese and Portuguese-influenced cooking alongside grilled seafood, noodles, barbecue, desserts and drinks from across Asia. The full vendor list and themed areas for 2026 haven't been announced yet, so treat any specific dish line-up you've seen online as unconfirmed.

The Grand Prix overlap

The festival opens on Friday 20 November, right in the middle of the Macau Grand Prix weekend (19–22 November). That makes the opening weekend the busiest few days of the whole run: race crowds plus food crowds in the same corner of the Peninsula. If you're in town for the racing, the festival is a natural evening plan. But book your hotel early, because the city sells out for the Grand Prix. Where to stay for the 2026 race.

Getting there

Sai Van Lake Square sits beside Macau Tower on the Peninsula. Buses and taxis are the simplest way in, though expect temporary traffic arrangements during the Grand Prix. The organisers have asked for approval for a temporary parking area (200+ car and motorcycle spaces) between the square and Rua Sul de Entre Lagos, and are working on a possible shuttle from Hengqin. Neither is confirmed yet, so check closer to the date if you're driving.

Tips

Go on a weekday evening for shorter queues. Friday and Saturday nights are the crush. Bring a group: the move is small servings from several stalls rather than one big meal, and sharing lets you cover more ground. Payment arrangements for 2026 haven't been published, so carry more than one payment option in case stalls differ. And pair it with the rest of the November calendar. The fireworks contest's final displays fall in early October, but the Grand Prix and the festival make late November the liveliest fortnight of the year.
